Reducing inequality within and among countries: Smurfit Kappa foundation's initiatives

The Smurfit Kappa Foundation is committed to supporting local communities in the countries where the Smurfit Kappa Group operates. Their projects align with the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of "Reduced Inequalities" and contribute to other SDGs as well. Below is a snapshot of their current projects:

LA STAZIONE RULLI FRULLI - ITALY

In Finale Emilia, Italy, an abandoned bus station was transformed into a cultural hub with the support of the Smurfit Kappa Foundation and SK Camposanto. 'Astronave Lab' and 'Rulli Frulli' established a music school, workshops, and a bistro. The Foundation's €192,000 donation fostered community inclusivity and highlighted corporate social responsibility.

FONDAZIONE SCUOLA DI MUSICA ANDREOLI - ITALY

The Fondazione Scuola di Musica Andreoli and the Rulli Frulli band use music to educate and include children with disabilities. Seventy children create musical instruments from everyday objects, which are used to teach music. The Foundation's €192,100 donation enabled the construction of a new headquarters after the previous one became too small following a 2012 earthquake.

FONDATION SAINT-PIERRE - FRANCE

For over 100 years, Fondation Saint-Pierre has operated the Children’s Hospital of Palavas in southern France. They built a gymnasium dedicated to Parasport, helping disabled athletes perform their best. The Smurfit Kappa Foundation's €300,000 donation provided inclusive sports equipment, promoting equality in sports.

FUNDACIÓN TAMBIÉN - SPAIN

Fundación También promotes the social inclusion of disabled individuals through adapted sports and leisure activities. The Smurfit Kappa Foundation's €30,700 donation funded special equipment to support this initiative, fostering educational values and social integration.

COTSWOLD EDGE DISTRICT SCOUT COUNCIL - ENGLAND

The community hall used by the Cotswold Edge District Scout Council, including disability groups, music groups, and mother and toddler groups, needed rebuilding due to health and safety concerns. A £20,000 donation from the Smurfit Kappa Foundation facilitated this project, ensuring the hall remains a vital community resource.

SPORTS DANS LA VILLE - FRANCE

Sport dans la Ville supports over 5,000 disadvantaged young people in social integration through sports, aiming to build self-confidence and essential values for success. The Smurfit Kappa Foundation's €200,000 donation helped redevelop a site, enabling it to accommodate three times more young people annually.

TELOVYCHOVNA JEDNOTA - SLOVAKIA

Telovychovna Jednota is a sports organization in one of Slovakia's poorest regions, dedicated to providing equal opportunities for children. The Smurfit Kappa Foundation's €32,000 donation supplied necessary equipment, ensuring all children, including new members, have access to sports.

ASPACE NAVARRA - SPAIN

A €51,200 donation from the Smurfit Kappa Foundation enabled the construction of a fully accessible playground for over 144 children with Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities. Students at the Virgen de Orreaga Special School now have a recreational space that is inclusive and non-discriminatory.

STICHTING HET GEHANDICAPTE KIND - NETHERLANDS

Stichting het Gehandicapte Kind ensures children with disabilities can fully participate in society and have equal development opportunities. The Foundation's €42,000 donation funded a project offering tailor-made education for disabled children in regular schools, supported by qualified teachers and caregivers.

These projects underscore the Smurfit Kappa Foundation's commitment to reducing inequalities and supporting the sustainable development of communities worldwide.
