Strengthening data collection and management

A cornerstone of the Global Freshwater Challenge is the emphasis on improving data collection and management. Accurate and comprehensive data is crucial for understanding the current state of freshwater ecosystems and predicting future trends. Enhanced data collection methods, including advanced sensor technologies and satellite monitoring, can provide real-time information on water levels, pollution sources, and ecosystem health. In response to the pressing need for innovative solutions in the water sector, leading global conglomerate HCL has partnered with the World Economic Forum's open innovation platform UpLink to launch the Aquapreneur Innovation Initiative. This groundbreaking collaboration aims to accelerate the innovation agenda for water, fostering a dynamic ecosystem where water-focused entrepreneurs, or Aquapreneurs, can scale and thrive while protecting and restoring freshwater ecosystems.


With a substantial investment of $15 million over five years, the Aquapreneur Innovation Initiative seeks to source and support innovative projects that address the Global Freshwater Challenge. This initiative builds on HCL's extensive experience in water conservation and leverages UpLink's platform to connect Aquapreneurs with existing initiatives and water networks. By unlocking funding opportunities and facilitating multistakeholder collaboration, the initiative aims to enhance the resilience of freshwater ecosystems and ensure their sustainability for the future.


Future-Proofing freshwater resources

The ultimate goal of the Global Freshwater Challenge, bolstered by the Aquapreneur Innovation Initiative, is to ensure the longevity and sustainability of freshwater resources. This requires a multifaceted approach that integrates scientific research, community engagement, and international cooperation. Public awareness campaigns and educational programs can foster a culture of conservation and responsible water use.
